Introduction
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a non-profit, educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women/girls. SWE empowers women/girls to succeed and advance in those aspirations, and to be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.
To help meet that initiative of bringing engineering opportunities to everyone, our outreach division has been organizing the Girls Engineer It Day (GEID) for many years. In the past, GEID has been an incredible opportunity to introduce young students to the wonders of engineering.
This year, SWE is excited to announce that GEID will be a completely virtual event!
Just like in past years, our goal is to reach Elementary and Middle School students so that they can better understand some of the different types of engineering, what they are, how to apply them through hands-on activities, and what resources are out there locally for them to utilize to keep the knowledge and expand it. The event is promoted as a female event, though we also invite and have male participants attend.

Girls Engineer it!
STEM is a buzz word that everyone is talking about at the schools. We take that acronym and bring it to life. We have local SWE members and technologists that come up with an activity that speaks to them and they teach elementary and middle school students that activity.
This year, we will be providing five tracks for elementary school students and five tracks for middle school students to choose from. Each track will include a different set of two fun and engaging activities. Each lesson is about an hour long. All of the materials required for the students to execute the activity will be available in a convent package.
Through this event we hope to teach the students that Science, Technology, Engineering and Math isn't as difficult as they might think. We want them to strongly consider choosing a field in one of those areas. So we teach a wide cross-section of STEM hands-on activities and let them decide if they enjoy it.
More information on the GEID tracks can be found on our Schedule and Activities page.

Testimonial from GEID 2019
I just wanted to say my girls a Charles Ellis has a great time at the Girls Engineer It! Day! Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to put this on, year after year! This is very beneficial to these kids and has opened their eyes to what they can accomplish. So much appreciated! - O.L.
